The Brentwood Grand Prix hosted the Elite District Criterium Championships along the tree lined streets of San Vicente Blvd. in downtown Brentwood. Large crowds and an expo area added to the ambiance of the event to make for a perfect day at the bike races.
A technical and challenging course with a slight rise benefited the riders with late season fitness.
In the Pro 1/2 Race it was a chaotic finish as the three man break of Cody O’Reilly (Optum Health pb Kelly Benefits), Diego Sandoval (SC Velo) and Eric Marcotte (Elbowz Racing) lapped the field on the last lap going into the sprint and came out sprinting in front of the peloton for the win with O’Reilly taking it ahead of Marcotte.
The women’s race saw Suzanne Sonye (Team Helens) win in a field sprint, followed by teammate Shelby Reynolds and Alexis Ryan (Team Tibco) in third.
The following riders rode a hard fought battle to earn the Criterium Championship Title: Pro 1/2 – Cody O’Reilly (Optum Health pb Kelly Benefits), Women’s 1-3 Suzanne Sonye (Team Helens), Cat 3 Robert Angle (Team Simple Green/Bike Religion), Cat 4 Robert Stotts (H & S Bicycle of Burbank), Women 3 Emily Georgeson (Team Helens) and Women 4 Jennifer Whalen (Ritte Racing).
The following riders won the Non Championship Categories: Masters 35 + Mike Easter (Time Facctory Team), Masters 45 + Alan Flores (Spy Blue), Masters 55 + Mark Hoffenberg (Sho-air/Rock’n Road), Masters 60 + Mike Marotta (Spy-Swamis), Cat 5A Juan Alvergue (Celo Pacific) and Cat 5B Manuel Sanchez.
