Report & Results: Merco Credit Union Classic – Stage 1

The Merco Credit Union Classic is the season opener for most of the top Pro and Amateur teams that have aspirations to compete at the NRC level. With that said, the Merco Credit Union Classic gives the teams competing a chance to race against a strong field with stacked teams.

The Merco Credit Union Classic, which is celebrating it’s twenty year anniversary, saw the Pro Men, Pro Women and Masters 35 + race the first stage on a 12.5 mile loop that had three miles of rolling terrain with one main climb.

In the Pro Men’s race, Phil Gaimon (Bissell) soloed to victory followed by Kirk Carlson (Team FF)  and Ben Jacques-Maynes (Jamis-Hagen Berman) in 3rd.

The Women’s race saw Specialized-lululemon teammates go one, two with Taylor Wiles taking the win ahead of Evelyn Stevens, followed by Alison Powers (NOW and Novartis for MS).

In the Masters 35 + race, Masters 40 + National Road Race Champion Matt Carinio (Artscyclery.com) grabbed the win ahead of MRI Endurance teammates Chris DeMarchi and Gary Douville.
