The Hilltop Ranch Road Race was the final stage of the Merco Credit Union Classic and featured a course that consisted of a 24 mile loop of rolling hills. After three days of racing, the Hilltop Ranch Road Race was the last chance for riders to go for a stage placing or try to maintain or improve their GC position.
The Pro category raced 5 laps for a total of 120 miles. In the end, a group of 72 riders came to the finish together for a field sprint with Dion Smith (Full Circle Cycling) edging out criterium winner Ken Hanson (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies), followed by Daniel Holloway in third (Team Mike’sBikes p/b Incase). SoCalCycling.com Elite Team’s Anthony Canevari rode well to finish 7th in the stage.
After four days of racing, Phil Gaimon (Bissell) held on to the leaders jersey for the GC win. Ben Jacques-Maynes (Jamis-Hagen Berman) finished in 2nd just 50 seconds back, with Chad Haga (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) rounding out the podium for third 1’05 back.
In the Women’s race, Beth Newall (NOW and Novartis for MS) won the Hilltop Ranch Road Race in a field sprint which was contested against a lead group of 26 riders. Alison Tetrick (Exergy TWENTY16) was second with Lauren Hall (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) securing the final spot on the podium for third.
National Time Trial Champion, Evelyn Stevens (Specialized-lululemon) held on to the yellow jersey to take the Overall win in the GC. Alison Powers (NOW and Novartis for MS) finished 31 seconds back in 2nd with Tayler Wiles (Specialized-lululemon) in 3rd.
In the Masters 35 + race, Randall Coxworth (MRI Endurance) won the the Hilltop Ranch Road Race with Masters 40 + National Road Race Champion Matt Carinio (Artscyclery.com) holding onto the Overall GC to secure win.
