Amgen Tour of California Seeks Artwork Submissions, Chance to Win a Trip to ATOC

Fans, artists and cyclists of all ages are being recruited by AEG, the presenter of the Amgen Tour of California, America’s largest cycling race, to create and submit original artwork for the 2014 Amgen Breakaway from Cancer® Most Courageous Rider Jersey. Since 2009, this special and traditional jersey is awarded daily to the professional cyclist who best exemplifies the character of those engaged in the fight against cancer – courage, sacrifice, inspiration, determination and perseverance.

For the ninth consecutive year, an elite international field of professional cyclists will compete for the Amgen Breakaway from Cancer® Most Courageous Rider Jersey during the Amgen Tour of California taking place May 11-18, 2014. This includes nine recently announced Pro Tour teams, who will compete in the Tour de France-style stage race.

“The Breakaway from Cancer® initiative is an example of one of the ways Amgen is leading the race to dramatically improve people’s lives,” said Bob Azelby, vice president and general manager, Amgen Oncology. “Amgen is passionate about serving patients and increasing awareness of important resources for those impacted by cancer. Our sponsorship of the Amgen Tour of California allows us to reach into the community and connect with survivors and their loved ones through programs such as this Most Courageous Rider Jersey contest. We look forward to seeing the creative designs.”

From now until March 2, 2014, original artwork submissions will be accepted online. The artwork, as determined by the official panel of judges, will be used as the design of the 2014 Amgen Breakaway from Cancer® Most Courageous Rider Jersey. Official jersey supplier Champion System will produce this specially created jersey.

One grand prize package will be awarded to the person who designs the winning artwork. The prize package includes a trip for the winner and one guest to one stage of the 2014 Amgen Tour of California, including roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, VIP Hospitality Passes to the respective stage of the race, an Amgen Tour of California merchandise package, and the opportunity to meet the Most Courageous Rider winner of the stage following the awards ceremony.

The winning submission will be determined by the following criteria: creativity (50 percent), use of colors and elements (25 percent), and choice of theme (25 percent). A panel of judges will review all eligible entries. Official contest rules can be found at https://woobox.com/offers/rules/mh6edn.

“As a company we are honored to be a part of this inspiring and supportive cause, Breakaway from Cancer®. Watching the rider pull on this jersey is always such a thrill as they are part of something so much bigger than just a bike race. That is what makes this race so special. The tie in to the cycling community with the design contest was a huge hit and we expect to see some amazing entries,” said Scott Kaylin, Co-Founder, Champion System.
