Organizers of Campagnolo Gran Fondo San Diego Gears Up for Ninth Year

Cycling event draws thousands of new and returning participants; title sponsor Campagnolo returns for fourth consecutive year

The Campagnolo Gran Fondo San Diego, a rite of spring for cyclists, will be held on Sunday, April 9 in downtown San Diego. The bike ride starts in Little Italy and finishes at Ruocco Park on the waterfront of San Diego Bay. Sponsors of the ninth annual event include Campagnolo, Peloton Magazine, Primal Wear, Rudy Project, Pulse Endurance Sports, nuun Hydration, and Sierra Nevada.

The event is known for its fantastic routes, great weather, outstanding Campagnolo on-course support, and an Italian finish feast. Registration is filling up quickly and expected to reach capacity.

The Campagnolo Gran Fondo San Diego has gained notoriety both nationally and internationally as a “Must Do” ride. Last year over 50% of all participants came from outside of San Diego, representing 32 states and 18 countries!

“We are excited to once again join with San Diego’s Little Italy Association, Campagnolo North America, and Challenged Athletes Foundation to promote the passion and enjoyment of cycling in America’s Finest City.” said Tobias Panek of Granfondo Cycling Tours.

The event is a fundraiser for Challenged Athletes Foundation – Operation Rebound. Challenged Athletes Foundation’s® (CAF) Operation Rebound® program is the premier sports and fitness program for American military personnel, veterans and first responders with permanent physical disabilities. It provides unparalleled opportunities to pursue active, athletic lifestyles by offering access to funding for equipment, training and competition expenses. Although it is not mandatory to donate or become a fundraiser, it is highly encouraged. Fundraisers that raise over $600 are treated to a Free Ride Entry and Custom Event Jersey.

The event offers four riding options that appeal to all levels of cyclists: a 20-mile Fun Fondo, a 34-mile Piccolo Fondo with 900’ of climbing, a 56-mile Medio Fondo with 1,500’ of climbing, and the 105-mile Gran Fondo with 6,000’ of climbing and a timed King/Queen of the Mountains Challenge.

Primal Wear, a leading custom apparel manufacturer in the bike industry, is back for its third year as sponsor of the blue gradient ocean inspired cycling kit for the 2017 Campagnolo Gran Fondo San Diego. A limited number of Cycling Shorts and Jerseys – along with matching arm warmers and a very Unique Campagnolo Cycling Cap – are available for pre-order on the event website.

Registration for the 2017 Campagnolo Gran Fondo San Diego is open to cyclists of all abilities. For more information, and to register, please visit www.sdgranfondo.com.
