Three Ride Options - More Info >
A Ride: This is not a formal SDBC-organized ride, although SDBC members participate and it uses the classic SDBC 50-mile loop. It is very fast-paced (mostly attended by current racers), and does not have required re-group spots after Cardiac Hill or Stud Loop. The ride varies from sustained tempo to a series of attacks on hills and flats. If you are not on top form, you can expect to be dropped during the ride.
B Ride: This is a SDBC-organized ride. It is approximately 50-miles and is the core training ride for SDBC members; others may participate. A SDBC member acts as ride organizer, which involves specified paceline practice, tempo riding, and optional hill-attacks. The overall pace is fairly high (20+ mph) and all cyclists are expected to be very competent in close-quarter riding. There are specified re-grouping spots (Cardiac Hill and Stud Loop), but riders come and go you are responsible to know the route and for being able to return to the start/finish. The ride includes a major refreshment stop at Java Depot/B&L Bike and Sports, approximately 10 miles from the start/finish.
C Ride: This is a SDBC-organized ride. It is approximately 35-miles and is the basic training ride for SDBC members. A SDBC member acts as ride organizer. This ride is recommended for riders unfamiliar with the A and B ride routes and those riders not comfortable riding in large groups. The riding pace is relatively modest (15-18 mph), bike handling skills are emphasized, and cycling-related advice is freely provided to newer cyclists. Specific training includes learning to ride a rotating paceline and a short skill development drill. Every rider must be able to ride a continuous 35 miles at the training pace. There are specified re-grouping spots, but riders may choose to leave the ride if they notify the leader. The ride includes a major refreshment stop at Java Depot and B&L Bike and Sports, approximately 10 miles from the start/finish.

It's rivet time when the SDBC ride swoops down into Rancho Santa Fe on San Dieguito Road.
