Photo Gallery & Report: San Marcos Criterium

San Marcos isn’t your typical Criterium. It boasts a challenging course that is just under 2 miles, has a good downhill section along with a long flat crosswind section and then a short power hill that turns into a false flat that runs into the start finish.

The Pr 1/2 field had a strong showing from SPY GIANT RIDE p/b MRI, Incycle-Predator Components, KHS-Maxxis-JAKROO and BMW Development Team.

The race started out crazy fast and caused the field to split into small groups on the first few laps before coming back together. This softened up the field and a small four man group got up the road mid-race that contained three of the top teams which left the SPY GIANT RIDE p/b MRI team to try and organize a chase.

With more than half of the race done and the breakaway slowing down, a small group got across that added some much needed horsepower. The gap to the main field opened up again.

It looked like the winner would come from the break. With some attacks coming from the break it started to split up the break. This allowed for Sean Mazich (Jelly Belly pb Maxxis) to be patient and let the other teams chase each other so he could power in for the win.
