An Early Look at the 2021 Road Cycling Calendar

It has been a battered but triumphant year for sports in many ways, and cycling has been no different, with adjustments made to complete the pro cycling calendar after the coronavirus break. With the 2021 season set to closely relay the ending of the 2020 season, we take a look at some of the action that we could see before the calendar year runs out. The end of the year is also a great time for folks like us looking to get in some action and add some merry to our accounts and add to the excitement, there is no better time to take advantage of the sports interaction bonus 2020, as the events keep coming in fast and steady.

The last big race on the 2020 Pro road cycling calendar is the ongoing La Vuelta, but there is already a lot to look to for 2021, starting this November with the National Road Championships in Venezuela. The two-day event is an individual time trial event for all classes of racers and kicks off the 2021 UCI season on the 15th. The El Salvador National Road Championships kicks off on the same date, but will last longer than the Venezuelan iteration. Fresh off a grueling 2020 season and La Vuelta, do not expect many of the big names to foray in this early season runs. Next up on the list the National Road Championships in Israel, while the Men and Women’s Elite will be in Central America for the Elite Road Central American Championships in Panama. Both events will hold around the 21st of November.

The Elite Road Central American Championships is the first individual road race of the season, before the Vuelta Ciclista Al Equador, a six stage class 2.2 race for the Elite cyclists. The calendar year rounds off in December with two races in the Northern Africa. First up the Championnats Nationaux Route in Algeria, followed by a Nationaux Route in Morocco, six days later. The new year is kicked off Down Under with the Santos tour, the Cadel Evans Great Ocean face and the National Road Championships Australia. The second half of the 2020 season has been dominated by a rising crop of Slovenian riders, crowned by the Tadej Podacar and his impressive Tour de France win. At just 22 years, the UAE Team Emirates man is showing all the promise of a champion, and has a solid supporting cast. In a year where the coronavirus and cycling made more headlines than the usual doping scandals, there should be a continuity of clean and exciting cycling to enjoy as a new generation takes hold of the sport. Some usual names from over the years still stand as the old guard but expect them only where it matters most as they pick where to spend their legs.

With a supercharged end of the year that slides right into the new year, there should be enough action to go round and tickle your fancy.
