ROL d'Huez Wheels
By Sean Lackey
7/3/08 - I am meticulous about my wheels. Bikes roll, obviously, and the wheels are the actual part that does the rolling, so I have always paid extra attention to what wheelset I use. When I first took the ROL d'Huez wheels out of the box, I gave them my usual close inspection. I have to say that I was impressed. The initial reaction when holding the d'Huez in your hand is that they are definitely light. They spun silky smooth, and I like that ROL employed tried and true wheel building techniques that were sure to translate to a nice ride. The brass inlays at the hub keep a firm hold on the spokes to keep them running true ride after ride, and the 2 cross pattern rear wheel makes it stiff and responsive. So, how do they ride? In a word: smooth. The d'huez are light enough to feel effortless on the climbs, but stiff enough to handle out of the saddle accelerations or even those hairy sprint finishes. ROL has made a very complete wheelset with the d'huez. The 27mm deep rim qualifies as semi-aero so it rolls nice and fast on the flats without having to take a weight penalty when the road heads upward. The ROL d'huez wheelset is really a great all around wheelset that makes no compromises. Please visit the ROL Wheels web site to learn more about of their great wheels.
