New Name, Familiar Faces - Masters Team Announces 2011 Roster

12/30/10 – With more Masters National titles than any other squad in the United States over the past three years, the Amgen Masters cycling program is continually improving. Another successful season is in the books – our 2010 team of twenty four riders produced 123 victories, 249 top 3’s, 455 top 10’s, 4 National and 3 World Titles – The team looks forward to the 2011 racing season.

As the team prepares for 2011, they are pleased to announce a major shift in focus, most notably the expansion of our charitable work. The upcoming season offers a new opportunity for the team to more fully engage with team sponsors on our shared philanthropic vision. The squad will be smaller, which will allow the team to work with their sponsors on specific events, corporate awareness programs, and other outreach.

The 2011 squad will be known as Breakaway-UBS, to align itself with Amgen’s Breakaway from Cancer® initiative. Breakaway from Cancer® was created by Amgen to increase awareness of the important resources available to people fighting cancer – from prevention to education, and from cancer care to advocacy and support.

Keith Ketterer won the Gold at the 2010 UCI Cycling Masters
World Championships in the Mens 55-59 Individual Pursuit.

The team sponsors fully support the change, "UBS is proud to continue to sponsor such a distinguished Masters program. However, there is so much more we can do as a team, especially away from the racing scene, so we're excited the team is taking a new direction," said co-title sponsor Paul Feinstein, Sr. Vice President—Investments with UBS Private Wealth Management.

Team founder Jerry Jayne adds, "Our team has been focused primarily on racing, but now the team has become fully aligned with our sponsors' programs. The riders will continue to compete intensely to win titles as a team, but our new operation will reflect that we all – sponsors, riders, and supporters – care more about our own charity work than any cycling goals."

While this represents a major change for the team, they fully expect to maintain their position as a dominant force in Masters racing.  "The 2010 team produced phenomenal results this past year and UBS congratulates these riders," said Mr. Feinstein, "while we look forward to even more successes in 2011."

The team is also pleased to announce the Pacific MESO Center as a major addition to the 2011 team. The creation of Roger Worthington, the center is dedicated to the discovery of advancements in the treatment and prevention of mesothelioma.  "We are so happy to join the BFC-UBS team, and together look forward to promoting cancer prevention and treatment," said Mr. Worthington.

The team is fortunate to be supported by a majority of its sponsors, and welcomes our new sponsors as well. Existing sponsors include Hincapie Sportswear, Shimano, Specialized, Panaracer, Smith Optics, HED, iBike, Performance Fitness Concepts, Udo’s Oil, and Win’s Wheels.  Joining the BFC-UBS family for 2011 will be Pacific MESO Center, Pine River Investments, Skins, Sierra Nevada and Herbalife.
