Generosity Fuels World Bicycle Relief Success on “Giving Tuesday”

Deserving African students will receive 1,340 new bicycles from World Bicycle Relief in the coming months thanks to the generous donations from supporters on “Giving Tuesday.” Jenson USA, a leading retailer of bicycles, parts and accessories nationwide, again participated in this effort for the third consecutive year with their “One-for-One Campaign.” On Cyber Monday, for every new bicycle purchased, Jensen USA donated funds to provide specially designed, rugged Buffalo Bicycles produced by World Bicycle Relief which will be distributed to students in rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa.

“This is an incredibly worthwhile and fulfilling effort on the part of our employees and loyal customers,” commented Michael Cachat, Jenson USA founder and CEO. “To be a part of this campaign touches each one of us. Bicycles serve important purposes for many people. For those striving to get a better education, provide needed health services and establish businesses, bicycles are an invaluable tool. I feel very gratified that World Bicycle Relief was again able to surpass its bold goal in delivering such a meaningful number of new bicycles to so many deserving individuals. I’m glad that Jenson USA is able to play a continuing role in achieving this success.”

World Bicycle Relief is an organization that mobilizes people through ‘The Power of Bicycles’. They are committed to helping people in developing countries conquer the challenge of distance, achieve independence and thrive.

For many people in rural regions of developing countries, poverty is a daily reality. In areas where walking is the only mode of transport, a Buffalo Bicycle offers the real and immediate benefit of reliable access to essential goods and services. Powered by the remarkable human spirit, bicycles are a catalyst to possibilities and a boost to the human spirit.

In its eleven-year history, WBR has provided over 300,000 bicycles to students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs in Africa, South America and Southeast Asia. Studies have shown that student attendance increases by 28% for those with access to a bicycle. Health care volunteers are able to visit 45% more patients per day when using a bicycle. And dairy farmers make 25% more deliveries because they have a bicycle.
