Cyclists packed the 7000 square foot Specialized Concept Store, which also features many additional brands and products, in anticipation of learning more about Specialized’s Body Geometry Bicycle Fit (BG Fit) and Body Geometry Products (BG Shoes, BG Saddles and BG Gloves), which reduce pressure at contact points between the bike and body. Guests mingled from 6 to 6:30 and had a chance to catch up with friends, while enjoying an array of drinks including wine, San Pellegrino and Handlebar Coffee.

After an introduction of the experts, the audience was separated into two groups for presentations on BG Fit with Dr. Pruitt and with Dr. Minkow on blood flow analysis. Dr. Minkow’s explained and demonstrated how traditional saddles can cause reduced blood flow within just a few minutes in both men and women, without the rider even feeling or realizing it. Reduced blood flow has been linked to ED in many medical studies. Specialized has provided a solution for cyclists with the Specialized Body Geometry Saddles, which have cut away the center of the saddle to greatly reduce pressure and provide a safe level of blood flow for cyclists.

Dr. Pruitt, who is also the founder of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, helped develop BG FIT (Body Geometry Fit Integration Technology) with Specialized and has bike fit some of the worlds best cyclists, including Mark Cavendish (HTC-Highroad) and Frank Schleck (LEOPARD TREK). The goals of BG FIT include comfort, performance, relief of medical issues and cycling as life long activity. It was interesting to hear that Dr. Pruitt improved the position of many professional cyclists that had been riding in the same position for years and thought they had the optimum bike position. However, after being fitted with BG Fit and making minor adjustments to such things; as their saddle position, cleat position or stem size, they were able to increase their power and ride more comfortably for longer periods of time. Every cyclist, from the weekend warrior to the seasoned Pro, could benefit from a professional bike fit to increase comfort on the bike, improve position, increase power and have a more enjoyable ride.
