Heritage Park is the name of a year-round training criterium bicycle race held on Tuesdays in Santa Fe Springs, CA.
This location used to be the spot for weekend US Cycling Federation (USCF) races. Those ended in the late 1980s-early 1990s, but the Tuesday night training crit lived on until it died off around 2008. It’s been revived and is back to rolling strong!
Start Times: Tuesday at 8:00 pm
Time: Fall/Winter=40 laps. Spring/Summer=50 laps. Average lap times are 1 minute, so 40 or 50 minutes.
Location: The business park adjacent to Heritage Park in Santa Fe Springs. Southwest of major cross streets Telegraph Rd. and Norwalk Blvd. Uses Heritage Dr., Mora Dr., and Slusher Dr. (Slusher curves and is stretches 2 & 3. Here’s a map.
Course Description: 0.4 miles, 4 corners. Slight incline from turn 2-3, slight decline from turn 4 to 1.
Rules: None officially (this isn’t officially organized), but here’s what you should know:
* It’s dark. Bring lights. Front lights recommended, back lights off or steady.
* It can be fast. Crit fast (25+ MPH). Slow riders stay to the left but out of the way of oncoming traffic. There’s very little traffic but it is an open road.
* Keep it friendly. It’s training. No money, just love.
The name “Heritage Park” comes from the adjacent park and street.
Tuesday nights at 8:15p was the original ride. This ride stalled circa 2007. Prior that, guys like Joe A. and Steve Leyva would put up lap card and ring the bell for primes and the final lap. We’re bringing it back!
