This training ride covers a 2.7 mile circuit with a gradual low grade climb. Currently about 30 riders show up and a couple of packs circle the loop for an hour. The pace of the lead group is fast and the gradual hill makes everyone earn there spot in the pack. The ride is relatively new but the course is excellent. The road was recently built just a few years ago and therefore the surface is great condition. There is almost no car traffic on the course. There are 2 turns which are both neutralized to keep it real safe. A good comparison would be El Dorado park as far as distance. The ride starts at 5:30 PM at the traffic signal at Village Center Dr. and Orchard Hills (Just 1 block North of Portola & Culver). The finish is on top on the hill at the 40 MPH traffic sign. The finish is very safe and enables those who want to get a good sprint in to do so. The last lap is called by the group at around 6:25 PM when the group passes the start line. People tend to arrive early to warm up since the ride gets going fast from the first lap.
During the time of the year when it is dark during the ride, bring your lights. The entire course is well lighted by the street lights. During the dark rides we neutralize the turns even more to ensure we have a safe ride.
Overall this a great ride to get some good racing fitness.
