Motor Tabs
By Christy Nicholson

Motor Tabs is a new Fluid Replacement System that just came out on the market this summer that is revolutionizing fluid replacement. I had heard a lot about Motor Tabs as it was being developed, so was looking forward to trying it and seeing what it was all about.

Motor Tabs comes in three tasty flavors including; orange, fruit punch and lemon-lime. I thought they all were excellent. Motor Tabs is different from other sports drinks, since it is packaged in individual servings in air/water tight foil packages and is an effervescent electrolyte / energy tablet. If you have ever had a cold and used Alka Seltzer Cold Medicine (Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz), it is the same concept where you add the energy tablet to water and let it dissolve for 4 minutes before drinking.

I was very impressed with Motor Tabs. I thought it tasted great and was very convenient to use and not sticky, like some sports drinks made from a mix. I especially thought it was awesome for long rides, since you can carry a couple of the individually wrapped Motor Tabs with you in your jersey pocket and you are set if you need to reload with electrolytes. Just find some water and pop the Motor Tabs in your bottle and you are good to go!

Here are the scientific facts: Each tablet contains 250 mg of sodium, 75 mg of potassium, 16 grams of carbohydrate and 65 calories. You can decide how many tablets you need per bottle based on your individual fluid requirements. Most athletes prefer one, one-and-a-half or two TABS per bottle. I went with 1.5 TABS per bottle. This offered a little more flavor. Although when I was running out of my Motor Tabs stash and needed to ration, I just went with one TAB and it still tasted great.

Since I quit competing and didn’t feel like I was putting in enough time on the bike to warrant the extra calories until recently, I had not been using sports drinks, but just water. Right before I received the Motor Tabs to try, I started waking up with leg cramps due to the extra riding and not drinking electrolytes on the bike. I started drinking the Motor Tabs right away, both on and off the bike, and the legs cramps went away immediately.

I would highly recommend adding Motor Tabs to your arsenal of sports nutrition and fluid replacement before, during and after your work outs. For more info on Motor Tabs and where to buy Motor Tabs, please visit their web site at MotorTabs.com.
