Schroeder Iron Sponsors Cycling Again

1/10/07 - After a three-year hiatus, the Schroeder Iron Corporation is once again sponsoring an elite cycling team.  With experience running the highly successful Schroeder Iron Pro Cycling Team, the company’s President and CEO, Frank Schroeder, is approaching this effort with a slightly different emphasis.  The new team will be populated by vastly talented elite masters rather than pro racers.  Schroeder’s intent is to develop a team that can give back to the sport by mentoring younger, less experienced riders.  “There’s been so much negativity in the cycling world lately,” says Schroeder, “We’re really proud to be doing something positive for the sport.”  The team will also donate all of its winnings to the development of the Southern California Velo Junior Squad.  With the riders Schroeder has assembled, those winnings promise to be significant.

The Schroeder Iron talent pool includes doctors, business and medical professionals, government officials and business owners.  The roster includes both current and past National and State Champions.  In other words, this team is comprised of people who are successful both on and off the bike, the kind of people ideally positioned to help young riders find success in the sport of cycling and in life.

Old friends SC Velo and Incycle Bicycles, a pro-level bike shop in San Dimas, Chino and Pasadena Ca, as well as Cannondale, Fizik, Bell Helmets, Diadora, Voler, Easton, Speedplay and Oakley also support the current Schroeder Iron Master’s Team.

Schroeder’s experience in cycling dates back several years to the sponsorship of the SC Velo team in the year 2001.  That endeavor led to the sponsorship of the Schroeder Iron Pro Team in 2002 and 2003.  That team’s roster was made up of such cycling stars as:  Gordon McCauley, recipient of the Oceania Pro Tour Championship for the 2005/2006 season; Chann McRae, U.S. Pro Champion; Aaron Olson, now a member of the T-Mobile team; Miguel Meza, former European professional who rode in the Giro; and Hilton Clarke, winner of just about every major U.S. criterium last year.  The Schroeder Iron Pro Team had two very successful seasons and was very competitive against other U.S. teams with much bigger budgets.

“Cycling in America has never had the popularity it has elsewhere,” contends Schroeder.  “It’s time we did something about that, something to help nurture young riders and help develop the sport here.”
