The San Dimas Stage Race continued with the San Dimas Community Hospital Road Race around Lake Puddingstone and Bonelli Park today. The weather was sunny and perfect, which was a relief to the racers that endured the epic cold and rain last year.
There was some great racing action in all categories. Unfortunately, Pro Men’s Race Leader Phil Gaimon (Bissell) had a horrific crash into the fencing along the start / finish area and had to abandon the race. He was airlifted to USC Medical Center has been released after suffering a concussion. Luis Amaran (Jamis / Hagena Berman pb Sutter Home) took the win after being in a breakaway with teammate Ruben Companioni. Teammate JJ Haedo won the field sprint for a podium sweep.
In the Women’s race, Katherine Donovan (NOW pb Novartis) rode a steller race solo off the front for many laps, but was caught on the final lap after Optum pb KBS Team closed the gap and then set up Brianna Walle for the win. Amber Neben (The Dare to be Project) followed in second, with Joanna Kiesenowski (Team Tibco) in third.
Mike Easter (Time / Velo Pasadena) won the Masters 35 + from a small breakaway. Gary Douville (MRI Endurance Masters was second, with Frederick Bottger rounding out the podium for third.
