Raymond Fouquet Square Dedication Set for July 12

On Sunday, July 12 Velo Club La Grange will commemorate the naming of the corner of Westwood and La Grange as Raymond Fouquet Square in honor of the founder of Velo Club La Grange. Raymond Fouquet established the original Nichols Ride that departed from the corner more than 40 years ago. He also owned the great French restaurant La Grange that was located immediately south of the corner. Over the years, Raymond was instrumental in helping other restaurant owners open locations along Westwood Blvd. as well as living just a few blocks from the corner.

This is a chance to celebrate his legacy both for Velo Club La Grange and the community in which he lived.

There will be two separate events to allow as many people as possible to participate in this truly exciting event. At 7:45 am on July 12, we will hold the first event for all riders doing the Nichols Ride that morning. It will be a short ceremony and the ride will begin at its usual 8 am time. Please be there early to be part of this chance to honor Raymond.

The second event will be at 11:15 am. Raymond’s family and friends are planning to attend along with others and hope that as many of the Nichols riders as possible will head back at the end of the ride to Westwood Blvd. and La Grange  Ave. to participate.
