We are saddened to learn that our colleague Sean Weide has passed away.
Most recently, Sean worked for the Axeon Hagens Berman Team the past few seasons in Public Relations keeping us up to date with the latest Team news. In addition, Sean was the Press Officer and Communications Director for many Pro Teams over the last 10 years including: BMC Racing Team, Toyota-United, Team Type 1 and Rock Racing.
We first started working with Sean when he worked for the Toyota-United Team in 2007. Sean was always professional and did a great job of keeping us and our SoCalCycling.com audience informed on the latest news for the Teams that he was working with. Sometimes I wondered if he ever slept because he got his press reports out so quickly, even when he worked with the BMC Racing Team who raced in Europe in a different time zone.
We had the pleasure to meet Sean at several events and he was always friendly and helpful and enjoyed corresponding with him via email over the years.
In 2007, when he was working with the Toyota-United Team he even took the time to send us the following note for the Toyota-United Team coverage on SoCalCycling.com, which was greatly appreciated.
“I want to thank you for sharing all the news and accomplishments of the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team with the readers of SoCalCycling. It is a tremendous resource and you do a great job with the content. Keep up the good work.”
Sean had 5 daughters who he affectionately called his “Princesses”. He was just 49.
We extend our condolences to Sean’s family, friends and extended cycling family, in addition to the Axeon Hagens Berman Team, who recently suffered another tragic loss when rider Chad Young passed away.
It has been a pleasure knowing you Sean. RIP.
