Help pass historic funding for trails
The International Mountain Bicycling Association is asking cyclists for their support to help get the Great American Outdoors Act passed. A vote to pass the bill is expected to take place on Thursday or early next week. The Great American Outdoors Act would be a monumental victory for mountain biking , hiking and outdoor recreation!
The Senate is expected to vote on the Great American Outdoors Act this week,The Act would mean billions—yes, billions—of dollars for trails, parks, and public lands across the country.
The Act fully funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and addresses the trail maintenance backlog for the National Park Service, the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. IMBA and our partners worked hard to include the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management in the Act, as those agencies are vital for mountain biking.
Mountain bikers helped get this Act introduced in the Senate in March, after your voices permanently reauthorized LWCF earlier this year.
The pandemic has revitalized the importance of the outdoors. At the same time, it has highlighted how we don’t have enough trails close to home, and the trails that exist aren’t always equally distributed. This bill will help meet the demand for accessible outdoor spaces, put people to work building trails and parks, and help create trail systems that provide lasting economic benefits.
