Italy Hosts the 2024 Tour De France:
The Grand Depart Has Its Own Jersey,
Cycling Shorts and Accessories from the Collection
In July 2024, the Tour de France and Italy will meet for a Grand Départ that will take the peloton through Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont. Santini is celebrating the event with an outfit combining the colours of France and the Italian flag.
Misano Adriatico, 15 September 2023 – As an official partner of the Tour de France since 2022, Santini has created outfits dedicated to the stages of the Grande Boucle, celebrating the territories it passes through by telling their stories. It was during the Italian Bike Festival in Misano Adriatico that Santini chose to unveil the outfit honouring Florence and Emilia-Romagna, host of the 2024 Grand Départ.
The design of this outfit illustrates the closeness between France and Italy, united around this Grand Départ, with 3 stages drawn entirely on the Italian mainland: Florence – Rimini on 29 June; Cesenatico – Bologna on 30 June; Piacenza – Turin on 1 July.
“The starting point for designing the Grand Départ jersey was the Tour’s iconic logo and, more specifically, the yellow circle it features, which resembles a bicycle wheel,” explains Fergus Niland, Santini’s Creative Director. “Alongside this distinctive graphic element, we have placed other rounded shapes bearing the colours of the French and Italian flags, arranged in a circular pattern.”
This multicoloured circular design is positioned in the centre of the jersey, on both the front and the back. It also features on the bib shorts, the base layer and the three accessories included in the kit: gloves, cap and socks. Displayed on the yellow background of the jersey and base layer are other graphic elements associated with the Tour, such as the number 111, indicating the edition of the 2024 race; the names of the six Italian cities of departure and arrival for the first three stages of the Tour, and the altitude profile of each route.
From a technical point of view, the jersey offers a classic fit and features a combination of lightweight, breathable fabrics and raw-cut sleeves. The matching base layer is sleeveless, with an elongated cut, while the bib shorts are made of medium compression fabric, featuring breathable mesh braces and grippers at the hem to ensure the shorts stay in place. The GITevo chamois contains a gel core to absorb shocks gradually and guarantee maximum comfort during long rides. The Grand Départ kit will be available on the website www.santinicycling.com from late November 2023
