Ready for Reseda: Riding, Rolling, Relaxing
Powered by CicLAvia
Guided Group Rides on New Protected Bike Lanes Between Saticoy Street to
the North and Reseda Park/Victory Blvd to the South along Reseda Blvd
Sunday, March 17, 2024; 1–5 p.m.
On Sunday, March 17, from 1-5 p.m., Ready for Reseda: Explore the Corridor presented by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) and powered by CicLAvia, celebrates the recent transportation safety improvements along Reseda Boulevard. The City of Los Angeles has reconstructed Reseda Blvd as part of the Complete Streets Program to improve safety and accessibility for all. The project will improve safety for people walking, biking, and driving along the corridor, and make the street greener and more comfortable for residents, businesses, and customers.
This free event will feature a series of guided group bike rides from BikeLA leading the bike tours that day along the new protected bike lanes and additional safety features on Reseda Boulevard, between Saticoy Street to the North and Reseda Park to the South, highlighting the recent transportation safety improvements. Reseda Boulevard will remain open to cars, and we encourage participants to explore the area safely. Bicycles, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, strollers, walkers, and runners are all welcome. There will also be two Hubs, one at the north end of Reseda Park and the other at Reseda and Saticoy, with music, street games, bike rentals, free pedicab rides, food trucks, freebies, art workshop and other activities for all ages and abilities. For a full list of activities, visit ciclavia.org.
The City of LA is committed to redesigning streets for the comfort and safety of pedestrians and cyclists in order to reduce fatalities and severe injuries caused by car crashes. Through data-driven analysis, community engagement, and innovative solutions, LADOT and the Bureau of Engineering have transformed Reseda Blvd with enhanced infrastructure, including improved crosswalks and bike facilities, protected left turn signals, and sidewalk and pavement repairs.
LADOT’s mission is to lead transportation planning, project delivery, and operations in the City of Los Angeles. The department works together and collaborates to deliver a safe, livable, and well-run transportation system in the city and region.
“Ready for Reseda celebrates one of our most holistic corridor safety projects yet,” said LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo. “Over the last three years of engagement, project planning, and construction, LADOT has worked alongside residents, businesses, and city partners to deliver a project that supports safe access for all modes of transportation along Reseda Blvd. We can’t wait to celebrate this achievement alongside the community that has helped make this day possible.
In addition to LADOT, event partners include the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering, Reseda Neighborhood Council, Councilmember Bob Blumenfield from Los Angeles Council District 3, Councilmember Nithya Raman from Los Angeles Council District 4, and Councilmember John Lee from Los Angeles Council District 12.
“I’m excited to join the community in celebrating the transformation of Reseda Boulevard,” exclaimed Councilmember Bob Blumenfield. “This project includes critical safety measures, such as traffic signal upgrades, improved crosswalks and enhanced bike lanes. And by reducing speeding, this project will help make Reseda a place to drive to, not only to drive through. This project has been a long time in planning and construction, but the results are something every Reseda resident can be proud of.”
“It is so incredibly exciting to know that after many years of work, Reseda Boulevard has been transformed to better serve all modes of transportation,” said Councilmember John Lee. “These improvements will undoubtedly enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and make alternative modes of transportation more feasible for everyone in our Valley communities. I’m grateful to our city partners and local stakeholders who worked collaboratively to make this project a reality.”
“After 50 open streets events, including our new CicLAminis, CicLAvia is taking a slight detour to partner with LADOT on this pop-up event to celebrate and explore the new pedestrian, bike and bus infrastructure along Reseda Boulevard,” says CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual. “Any progress toward making the streets safer and friendlier for people who bike, walk, and ride the bus is a step in the right direction of cleaner air, healthier lifestyle, less traffic, and a more joyful way to get around L.A. The bus boarding islands, protected bike lanes, and safer crosswalks and pedestrian-friendly features as permanent infrastructure in the Valley are definitely reasons to celebrate. We are thrilled to continue this partnership that focuses on prioritizing safety, inspiring further efforts to create safer environments for all road users.”
