A decade of storytelling through the lens

Leeanne Gatien founded the Mark Gunter Photo Awards to honour her late husband and father of their now 11 year old son Lucas. Since it’s inception, the awards have seen thousands of submissions. Capturing the rich colours of cycling narratives from around the world. From the thrills of Tour de France racing to serene moments on trails in Kenya. The diversity of photos entered underscores the universal allure of cycling, and the power of photography in capturing of a moment in time.

“This project began as a homage to Mark, for Lucas, and has since blossomed into a supportive platform for established and grassroots cycling photographers,” notes Loek Luijbregts, who like all contributors to the Mark Gunter Photo Awards over the years volunteers with time, network and talents. “A decade on, Leeanne, the judges, all participants, voters and partners continue to develop the impact the Awards has for photographers, cycling culture and Tour de Cure who fund cancer research.”

Accessibility meets professional excellence

The 2025 edition of the awards is more committed to inclusivity and participation than ever. Around the world people are invited to submit their favourite cycling photos. We’re bridging back the Smartphone category and to celebrate the 10th year everyone can enter their first Smartphone photo for free.
