Building Community Through Open Streets

CicLAvia’s impact is more than a day without cars. It’s a movement that reaffirms our identity as a city of neighborhoods, each with its own voice and history. Just like parks, libraries, and transit, open streets are essential to the fabric of our region. Every time CicLAvia opens our streets, there is an investment in people and community. CicLAvia prioritizes working with small businesses, local cultural partners, and civic organizations.

“We’re so excited to be back to CicLAvia–Meet the Hollywoods for the 4th time. Our first was in 2019, and then in 2022 and 2024,” says CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual. “With the world’s attention on Los Angeles as we prepare to host the 2028 Olympics, there’s no better way to showcase the city’s connectivity, creativity, and vibrant neighborhoods. This route links West Hollywood, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and East Hollywood, putting some of L.A.’s most iconic destinations on display. As the World Cup comes to a close, we’ll also bring fans together with a community watch party, celebrating the tournament and the spirit of Los Angeles on our open streets.”

Over 15 Years of Connecting Los Angeles Communities

Imagine streets alive with joy, laughter, and the freedom to roam. CicLAvia is a nonprofit organization that has been opening streets throughout Los Angeles County since 2010, transforming city streets into a car-free celebration of community, connection, and possibility — places where participants can slow down, connect, and appreciate the city in a new way. CicLAvia is about reimagining our city streets as welcoming spaces for everyone — places for walking, running, rolling, spectating, and enjoying the moment. Nearly two million Angelenos had the chance to stroll, jog, skate, and cycle through neighborhoods like Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Culver City, Hollywood, Lincoln Heights, Little Tokyo, Mid City, North Hollywood, Pico Union, Canoga Park, Winnetka, Reseda, South LA, Venice, Watts, and West Hollywood. CicLAvia could not have had such success without amazing supporters, dedicated volunteers, a hard-working team of staff and volunteers, and all of the participants and CicLAvia enthusiasts.

Inspired by Bogotá’s World-Famous Ciclovía

Inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, CicLAvia has been temporarily closing streets to car traffic and opening them as public parks in Los Angeles for over 15 years. CicLAvia car-free streets connect all of us to the neighborhoods where we live, work, shop, learn, and play. Active participants at CicLAvia use people-powered mobility to navigate public streets in a safe and joyful way. Along the way there is shopping at local businesses, access to cultural and architectural gems, using open streets as spaces to connect with each other, and making a positive impact on the environment by creating a more sustainable and climate resilient city and region. CicLAvia has helped communities re-imagine a greener and cleaner Los Angeles region, while also promoting equitable transportation options, healthier lifestyles, and closer connections to community.
