Amgen-UBS Elite Masters Announces 2010 Roster
New Sponsors, New Riders, New Focus

1/12/10 - The Amgen Elite Masters cycling program has produced some incredible results over the last two seasons.  In 2008, the team delivered 78 victories, 160 top 3’s and 310 top ten finishes. 2009 was even more successful, as the boys stepped up with 104 victories, 199 top 3’s, 369 top 10 finishes and one world hour record! The team looks to reload in 2010, with a number of key additions to an already stacked squad.

A strong team is supported by strong sponsors.  Amgen Elite Masters is pleased to announce UBS Financial Services, Inc. in Los Angeles has joined as co-title sponsor for 2010 and beyond. Partnering with UBS will elevate the squad to new heights, and the team will now be known as the Amgen-UBS Elite Masters cycling team. "UBS is proud to sponsor such a distinguished Elite Masters program," said Paul Feinstein, Sr. Vice President-Investments with UBS Private Wealth Management.  "Our organization has strong cycling ties and this union with Amgen Cycling and the Amgen-UBS Elite Masters team is a perfect fit."

The 2010 Amgen-UBS squad will also be supported by a mix of new and existing sponsors.  The team will continue its long standing successful relationships with Hincapie Sportswear, Shimano, Smith Optics and Marshall’s Design.  Joining the family for 2010 are some incredible new team sponsors. These include iBike, 4-Nitrocel, Panaracer, Udo’s Oil, HED, Performance Fitness Concepts and Win’s Wheels.

Another major sponsor for 2010 is the addition of Specialized Bicycle Components.  Specialized is one of the leading bicycle companies in the world, and has shown a strong commitment to all forms of cycling, from the UCI Pros, to grassroots racing and cycling events.  It is this grassroots dynamic which continues to motivate the Amgen-UBS Elite Masters team and Amgen Cycling Club. The team welcomes Specialized as the official team/club bike for many years to come.

With a solid foundation in place, the focus shifts to the riders.  The 2010 Amgen-UBS Elite Masters team is:

“We are ecstatic to have added Jamie Paolinetti, Michael Johnson, Aron Gadhia and Chance Fielder to the 2010 team,” said Thurlow Rogers, Team Director. "These new riders, along with our current roster and overall sponsor support take this program to a new level in masters cycling."

With more Masters National titles than any other squad in the United States over the past two years, the team will start to slowly shift its focus in order to compete with the world’s best master cyclists.  While the team will continue to primarily train and race in the southwest, they will also attend large national level and selected world level events.  The main objectives for 2010 will be National and World titles, both on the road and track.

Beyond these core racing objectives, the Amgen-UBS squad will continue to expand on its charitable work for 2010 and will also focus on a full length film. "The riders will compete and win titles as a team, but another powerful weapon is their ability to work together and contribute off the bike, says Team Founder Jerry Jayne.  "Racing is just one aspect to our team and it’s important for us to be aligned with our corporate sponsor initiatives, so raising awareness and funds are a big part of our program."  One of these main initiatives is the Breakaway Rides Presented by Specialized in April 2010. For more details on these rides and to get involved in the cycling fight against cancer, please visit www.breakawayride.com. It doesn’t stop there, as the team is currently planning to be involved with another Jamie Paolinetti cycling documentary, to be titled The End of the Road. More details on this project will be forthcoming shortly.

The team also brings back its Ambassador Program for 2010.  With a focus on promoting cycling within the community, the team’s ambassador program is supported by Matt Skelton, Paul Feinstein, Marshall Pepperman, Ed Morris, Robert Neary, Bruce Gustafson, Chris Allen, Chris Thompson, Roger Young, Harm Jansen and Vito Czulak.

The Amgen-UBS Elite Masters team is set for another successful campaign in 2010, both on and off the bike. Be on the lookout for the Amgen-UBS Elite Masters at a cycling event near you!
