Team 5 Star Fish
Team 5 Star Fish recently gathered for their first of two training camps in Paso Robles, California. The newly formed 11 man elite amateur squad stayed at the chateau of a local vineyard for team bonding and endurance riding, among other activities. A second training camp will be held in east San Diego County in mid-January.
Several top southern California amateur riders were chosen for the squad including six ranked in the top twelve in the Pro 1, 2 “2006 Socal Cup Cycling Standings”. These riders include Karl Bordine (1st), Peter Anderson (5th), Dan Vinson (6th), Chris DeMarchi (9th), Nate Deibler (10th), and Brandon Gritters (12th). The squad is composed of eight category 1 and three category 2 riders. “Most importantly, however, is that we have a great group of guys who will work together for the benefit of the team,” says Justin Beope, team Director.
“We have put together an extremely strong elite amateur team for the 2007 racing season,” says Director Sportif Justin Beope”. “We have the firepower to be contenders any local road race or criterium. Additionally, we plan to compete in several west coast National Race Calendar (NRC) events as well as other selected NRC races throughout the United States.”
Team 5 Star Fish is owned by Justin Beope and Scott Crosby, both of San Diego, CA. Justin serves as the team Director and also races in a very limited capacity. Both Scott and Justin are avid cyclists and feel the need to support the sport in Southern California where although cyclists are many, the support is sparse.
Five Star Fish (“you slay 'em, we filet 'em") offers an expedited processing service to Southern California sport fishermen who return from Mexico with fish that need overnight processing and shipping. Five Star Fish specializes in "fresh" processing (without freezing), thus preserving the best flavor. Owner Scott Crosby captains his own fishing boat, "I think it's Booty", while Justin Beope oversees the filleting and smoking. Both Justin and Scott are also professional lobster trappers and deep sea salvage divers, having recovered famous Spanish wreckage off the coast of Florida in addition to holding various diving depth records.
The team will ride Kuota team issue bicycles with Shimano Dura Ace components and Easton wheels. Other sponsors include Time pedals, Sidi shoes, Continental tires, EAS nutrition, Bell helmets, Hi-Tech Bike Shop, Vinson Velo Coaching, and Fizik saddles.
