McLane Pacific Classic is Back On for '07
10/27/06 - The organizers of the McLane Pacific Classic thought they would be forced to cancel the event due to rising costs that USA Cycling is imposing on promoters to be included on the 2007 NRC Calendar. The good news is after a story ran in the local paper, the community rallied and MERCO Credit Union has stepped up to title the race, which will now be called the MERCO Credit Union Classic, presented by McLane Pacific. This was always one of my favorite early season races. Race organizer, Doug Fluetsch, always put on a fun, challenging event and was always helpful in setting us up with a great host family to stay with year after year. It would have been sad to lose an awesome race like this. While the increased prize list requirements are great for the racers, lets hope it doesn't force other NRC events to pull the plug too!

Training Time:  Pre-Season Resistance and Base Training
By Dan Vinson
10/26/06 - In the last installment of Training Time, we discussed your Off-Season Break and Activities.  In short, upon the end of your racing season (typically August-September in southern California), you should simply rest until your energy levels are up.  When that is accomplished, it is time to do some cross-training and core strengthening activities to retain general aerobic fitness.  Finally, depending on condition and goals, an athlete may begin a resistance training (weight lifting) program.  So, you have taken a break, gone golfing, and done some running over the past five or six weeks.  Now, you feel good and are ready to start your training for the 2007 season.  So, what is next?  What do you do from now until the first race of 2007? more >

With the departure of long-time veterans Gord Fraser, Mike Sayers and Scott Moninger, the team will see a youth movement in 2007. Training Time: Off Season Break & Activities - By Dan Vinson
10/4/06 - For most of us, the 2006 road cycling season is finally over! Here in Southern California, we have a long racing season indeed. It is typical for a rider to be physically and mentally fried after being competitive from February through September. It definitely pays to take a break, smell the roses, and get that long desired rest that you probably yearned for while training for the final events of the year. Well, now is the time to take a break and have fun with some "off season" activities. more >

Check back later for manufacturer coverage.
Pro Rider Sightings & Team News
We ran into our old racing friend Tina Pic while walking the show. It was great to catch up with her and share some laughs. Tina was always one of my favorite people to race with and it is good to see she is still going strong. She'll be racing her last race this weekend at the Track Nationals at the ADT Event Center Velodrome and is really looking forward to some well deserved time off, before going back to work for Colavita / Cooking Light next year. The 4 Time National Criterium Champ is still perplexed on how her crash with Laura Van Gilder happened at Crit Nats, but had a great sense of humor about it. more >
