2007 Tour de Murrieta Ready to “Kick-Off”

2/12/07 - With new courses, a big prize list, SRAM/Volvo neutral support for all riders, and SoCal Cup points and Women’s Cycling Challenge Series points up for grabs, the 2007 Tour de Murrieta is ready to roll,” said Ernie Sanchez, President of CA Pools Racing.

Leading the charge in 2007 is new Race Director Tony Leckie, former race director for the San Dimas Stage Race.  “We made some modifications to the courses keeping them downtown and great for spectators, but we’ve also ensured they remain challenging for all competitors.  Furthermore, this year racers will be competing for cash prizes for individual stages and like last year, a large payout for those that register for the omnium,” Leckie said.

“It’s going to be a great race in 2007, pre-registration is already double than it was last year at the same time, we expect the large fields we’ve seen so far in other 2007 races to continue as riders prepare for other challenging races such as San Dimas Stage Race and the Redlands Classic,” said race registration coordinator, Mark Miller.  Several local professional teams have pre-registered for the event, including the Polish National Team who is spending the winter in sunny California.

It’s going to be a fast race on Saturday, not only will individual stage winners take home some cash, but the Pro 1-2 men’s and women’s fields will be competing for the stage one leader’s jersey, similar to the champion jerseys up for grab for all of the other categories.

Spectators can line the streets of Historic Downtown Murrieta on Town Center Drive and Juniper Street, free of charge, to watch highly skilled cyclists maneuver their state of the art bikes at speeds reaching 40 mph.  Racing for both days begins at 7:30 a.m. with the Saturday’s kids’ race scheduled for 2:10 p.m.; Men’s Pro Race follows at 2:30 p.m.  Don’t miss the great expo area and accompanying give-aways including free refreshments from Alta Dena Dairy.  For more information about specific times and locations log on to www.capoolsracing.org
