First Annual Mark Whitehead Memorial Race to be held at El Dorado Park


Bikeable Communities presents the First Annual Mark Whitehead Memorial Race.

The race will take place at El Dorado Regional Park in Long Beach on September 4, 2012 as the finale to the summer-long El Dorado Training Race Series.

Mark Whitehead passed away in July 2011 at the age of 50. In the early years at El Dorado, Mark was one of the notorious stars of the peloton and he lived to put the hurt to anyone and everyone. He was the consummate competitor. Mark held 20 National Championship titles and was a member of U.S. Olympic track cycling team in 1984. Following his racing career Mark mentored World Champion Sarah Hammer and U.S. criterium specialist Rahsaan Bahati among others.
