Men’s and Women’s Teams Announced for 2013 Redlands Bicycle Classic

The Redlands Bicycle Classic has announced the teams competing in this year’s 29th Redlands Bicycle Classic presented by San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. The Redlands Bicycle Classic serves as the first race of the 2013 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar.

As the first race of the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar, teams and riders alike will be looking to build upon last season’s success while measuring there early season form. Redlands with its four days of stage racing is an early season test that everyone looks forward to each year.

This year the classic will include seven UCI continental race teams. Five of these teams have been selected to compete in the upcoming Amgen Tour of California. The remainder of the men’s peloton will be made up of 15 domestic elite teams. The Men’s field has featured many big names such as Chris Horner, Davis Phinney and Cadel Evans.

This year Bissell Pro Cycling team will send Patrick Bevin and Jason McCartney. Patrick won 3 stages of last year’s Classic. The 5 hour Energy squad features Francisco Mancebo always a GC contender. With the absence of Phil Gaimon the Big Bear Time Trial is wide open. With a TT of 7.8 miles it’s important for all GC contenders to put in a good time and keep the time gaps to a minimum.

The women’s field each year at the Redlands Classic reads like the who’s who in women’s cycling. This year looks to be no different with power house lineup that includes Specialized-Lululemon, Optum p/bKelly Benefit Strategies, Team TIBCO/to the top and Team EXERGY 2016.

The Big Bear TT will present an opportunity for many riders like NOW and Novartis for MS Alison Powers who reside at 8,000 feet. Mara Abbott coming off a win at San Dimas will be in the field. Amber Neben will be riding for The Dare to be project and an always talented Specialized LULULEMON squad looks to be in the mix.

With four exciting days of racing and two strong fields of riders the 2013 Redlands Bicycle Classic is looking to provide its usual brand of excitement. We hope you can join us in Big Bear, Beaumont and of course Redlands to watch this world class cycling event. Racing begins April 4 through the 7. We hope to see you then.
