The Lompoc Police Foundation, which raises funds for services, equipment, and education in support of the City of Lompoc Police Department’s mission, is pleased to announce the fourth annual 805 Criterium Weekend returns June 19-21, 2015, in Lompoc and Buellton, California, with a new title sponsor, Explore Lompoc.
Once again cyclist from across California and Nevada will race the streets of Buellton and Lompoc on Father’s Day weekend! The Lompoc Police Foundation Organizing Committee manages all aspects of the three day event and all proceeds benefit the Lompoc Police Foundation. Hancock’s Public Safety EVOC course will once again host Friday’s Twilight Race starting at 10:30 am, with racing on the Avenue of Flags in Buellton Saturday and in Old Towne Lompoc Sunday, both starting at 7:30 am. Explore Lompoc has stepped up to become the new title sponsor supporting the local communities as part of their grant program begun this year. Firestone Walker remains as a top sponsor along with the cities of Buellton and Lompoc, Buellton Visitor’s Bureau, Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce, Stumpgrinder Productions, Avnte, Hammer, and Ocean View Flowers.
Criterium bicycle racing is popular among spectators and competitors alike because of the high speed, multiple views of the course, and talents across all age levels. Unlike the Amgen Tour of California where only a portion of the race can be seen, criterium racing offers many races throughout the day and viewing spots along the course. This is the second year for the Hancock Emergency Vehicle Operations Course and the third year for the Old Towne Lompoc course with a change in direction for both. Buellton hosts the fourth year of racing on Avenue of the Flags. The Lompoc Police Foundation has proven its ability to provide challenging yet safe courses with a well-organized and run event. Lompoc and Buellton welcome the cyclists and are a supportive and friendly crowd.
Spectating is FREE! There will be beer gardens, live music, food trucks, and fun expo booths for everyone to explore. Both Saturday and Sunday will have a kids’ race at 2:30 pm. Registration is free. Helmets are required and every participant receives a medal. Come out and celebrate Father’s Day by cheering for the cyclists competing for a moment of glory, spending some time in the Firestone Walker Beer Garden, or enjoying the festival.
