Hosted by Majestic Cycling, the Santa Anita Park Crit is a fun, new event series that was added to the Southern California bike racing calendar in 2019.
Under hot temperatures, the Santa Anita Park Crit was held on Sunday in the South parking lot of the iconic thoroughbred horse racing track at Santa Anita Park, where legendary racehorses like Seabiscuit and American Pharoah became legends.
With a view of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains, the course featured a 1.2 mile loop that went around the perimeter of the South parking lot, which offered great viewing of the race, then went under a bridge with a slight downhill and uphill into a wide u-turn that the riders could take at speed as they headed back down the hill under the bridge and back to the finish line alongside the Westfield Santa Anita Mall the AMC Movie Theater.
With a heat wave arriving overnight, the hot temps made the conditions challenging, but the riders fought on and the spectators found whatever shade the could.
The Santa Anita Park Crit will be returning again on August 4th and September 8th for another opportunity to race on a fun course!
