Bike Enthusiasts Are Ready to Cycle with Santa to Deliver Toys
34th Annual SDBC Light Up a Life Holiday Toy Ride
Join the San Diego Bicycle Club for the 34th Annual Light Up a Life Holiday Toy Ride to benefit the Salvation Army. Riders will meet at UC Cyclery located at La Jolla Village Square at 8:00 a.m on December 11, 2021. Prizes will be awarded at 8:30 a.m. to the best-decorated adult rider, junior rider, and tandem riders. The 40-mile round-trip ride starts at 8:45 a.m. Participants arrive at The Salvation Army Kroc Center at roughly 10:30 a.m., before heading back to UC Cyclery.
Riders are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to carry to The Salvation Army Kroc Center, located at 6605 University Avenue. Toys can also be dropped off at UC Cyclery until December 10. The Salvation Army has toy registries for Amazon and Walmart, and encourages everyone to shop early due to toy shortages.
Led by Santa Claus, the ride is holiday pace (slow), and everyone is welcome. The Salvation Army is collecting toys for children of all ages—toys and sporting equipment for older kids and teenagers are especially appreciated—as well as canned or boxed nonperishable food.
The ride will take place rain or shine.
Every year the Salvation Army invites hundreds of San Diego families to select from the toys collected at the holiday distribution center.
