There can be no doubt whatsoever, that biking is one of the very best forms of exercise out there. It is also a really neat way of enjoying the great outdoors, even as you reduce your carbon footprint. If you are living close to your job it will help you to commute to work while also saving up on the overall costs and the inevitable frustration of commuting via car. However, there is the dilemma of figuring out just what to do and where to leave your precious bicycle, when you are not using it.
Of course, leaving it alongside the curb is not really an option nor should you do it, since it can get stolen easily. Ideally, it should be stored inside your home. However, if you have an apartment or a small house, you might have to struggle for some sort of storage space. There is no need to fret though because there are plenty of ways of storing your bike inside without compromising on space.
Hang it from the ceiling
This is arguably the simplest solution to your problem. Just install a few hooks from the ceiling so that you will suspend the bike from those hooks when it is not in use. You can also do the needful on your porch or a garage if you have any of those.
Put it up on your wall
Think wall art- or bike art in this case. You have to put up a shelf and a spotlight that will illuminate your bike. Throw in some brackets and hooks, and et voila. Your bike becomes a work of art- right there on your wall!
Build your own small gym
You should consider building a small home gym. This would be a great place to store your bike as well as any other exercising equipment that you might own. You can put in other machines such as a staircase machine, a rowing machine, a treadmill, or even all of them, combined.
However, you will definitely need rubber gym flooring for that room, otherwise, your equipment will spoil the floor. Moreover, such flooring will absorb the sound of weights being dropped and help you to do push-ups and other exercises where you have to lie prone on the ground.
Buy a bike dock
This is a pretty elegant solution. Basically, a bike station or dock is like a small cupboard that has been built for a bike or two. It can store the bicycles without exposing them to the walls. Once you decide to get one, you will have to install it and you are good to go.
Slide it under the staircase
If you do have a staircase, nothing like it. Just slide the bike under the stairs so that you will be able to use it whenever you like. You can even store all of your accessories as well and still have plenty of room to spare.
Opt for a bike rack
You might consider purchasing a freestanding rack for your precious bike. This is because it is an awesome choice for small or restricted spaces. As a matter of fact, such a rack will easily hold multiple bikes, in case your partner and other family members are interested in a joy ride. You can just put it away in a discreet corner and you are done with your storage issue.
Tuck it out of sight
This is probably the least expensive and low-cost, low-tech solution. Just go ahead and tuck it under the bed or any other large piece of furniture. A bike is a relatively thin machine. Once you remove the pedals and handlebars, you get a total thickness of around half a dozen inches or so. You can retrieve it easily. Reinstall the handles and pedals, and you can go riding whenever you want!
Conclusion
It is possible to store your favorite bike in even a small home or apartment. You can get a nice rack for it, or slide it under the stairs. However, the best solution is to put it on rubber gym flooring in your home gym.
