Sign Up Now for the Grit and Gravel Off-Road Cycle Stampede

Get ready to conquer the dirt, dodge the herd, and prove your grit! The inaugural Grit and Gravel Off-Road Cycle Stampede, presented by the San Diego Bicycle Club, charges into the breathtaking backcountry of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve on May 25, 2025. This unique off-road cycling challenge is open to men and women riders of all experience levels, with the kind of rugged terrain and raw adventure that’s earned it the tagline: “Conquer the Dirt, Dodge the Herd, Prove Your Grit!” This is the first race held at this beautiful county park and reserve and supported by the Santa Ysabel Business Council. A Community Enhancement Program (CEP) grant has been awarded by San Diego County Supervisor, Joel Anderson, to encourage recreational and off-road cyclists. The grant keeps the registration cost low and the fun and benefit high for all.

Whether you’re looking for an all-out competition, a chance to push your limits, or a challenging ride in a beautiful preserve, there’s a course for you:

🚵 Short Course – 7.6 miles, 1,000 feet of climbing
🏔️ Long Course – 16.6 miles, 2,900 feet of climbing
Each course unfolds along gravel fire roads through wide-open ranch land—with a few friendly cattle thrown in to keep things interesting.

Cyclists will race together, but results will be timed and awarded separately for men and women across three age categories (16–29, 30–49, 50+). To up the excitement, riders can choose from three race classes:

Mountain Bikes
Gravel Bikes
Class 1 & 2 E-Bikes

“The course is no joke,” says organizer Jerry Marino. “With steep climbs and cattle crossings, it’s the kind of ride that serious cyclists dream about, and off-road enthusiasts enjoy!”

Don’t miss the Kids’ Bike Safety Rodeo, a free event designed to teach young riders essential skills in a safe and fun environment. All youth participants will receive a free helmet, and there’s even a bike obstacle course for extra fun.
