As the Amgen Tour of California continues to expand its annual women’s race, its efforts to elevate the extraordinary achievements of female cyclists continue to be recognized by numerous individuals, organizations and governing bodies including USA Cycling and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), which has given the 2015 Amgen Tour of California Women’s Invitational Time Trial, the highest level of sanction for a non-world cup event of 1.1.
Empowered with SRAM, the Amgen Tour of California has held a women’s invitational race as part of the event’s schedule since 2011. In 2015, the roster of women’s events will expand to an unprecedented four days, with a three-day stage race, recently sanctioned by the UCI, and a women’s invitational time trial which will kick-off on Friday, May 8, 2015 in South Lake Tahoe, California and conclude on Friday, May 15, 2015 with an Invitational Time Trial in Big Bear Lake. As the women’s race continues to grow, more exemplary female cyclists are given the platform to display the power they possess behind the pedal to a worldwide audience.
“The UCI designation elevates the prestige of the women’s time trial event and increases the relevance of women’s cycling,” said Kristin Bachochin Klein, executive director of the Amgen Tour of California and senior vice president of AEG Sports. “This event will feature some of the best time trial specialists in the world, including World and Olympic Champions. Combined with the new women’s stage race, both events will showcase the extraordinary achievements of female cyclists from around the world.”
Kristin Bachochin Klein Elected to USA Cycling Board of Directors
Kristin Bachochin Klein, senior vice president of AEG Sports and executive director of the Amgen Tour of California, has been elected At-Large Representative to the USA Cycling Board of Directors, the sport’s National Governing Body announced this week.
“We are extremely excited to have Kristin join the USA Cycling Board,” said USA Cycling CEO and President Steve Johnson. “As Executive Director of the Amgen Tour of California, Kristin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the organization.”
Bachochin Klein joins the USA Cycling Board of Directors with more than a decade’s worth of experience with AEG and the Amgen Tour of California, first joining AEG Events as Director of Marketing in 2004 and as Executive Director of the Amgen Tour of California in 2010.
“Kristin brings essential communication and engagement skills as well as remarkable, directly relevant experience from her leadership role at the world class Amgen Tour of California,” said USA Cycling Board of Directors Chair Bob Stapleton. “She has passionately invested herself in showcasing both compelling male and female athletes at one of the world’s top cycling events.”
