The Painted Turtle Camp to Hold Annual Tour de Turtle Bicycle Ride

The Painted Turtle invites community members to participate in the Annual Tour de Turtle Bike Ride on Saturday, October 17, 2015 held at The Painted Turtle camp in Lake Hughes, CA. 100% of every dollar raised by participants will help send children with serious medical conditions to camp. Choose from one of three routes: 18, 36, or 62 miles. Routes are fully staffed with SAG, support vehicles and rest stops. Breakfast will be catered by Marmalade Cafe and lunch by Lemonade Restaurant.

Rider registration is $25. The fundraising commitment is $250 for all riders. Participants who raise at least $1000 are invited to stay the night at camp prior to the race and enjoy dinner and an evening at camp.

A new addition for non-riders this year, is the family-friendly 2 mile Turtle Trek. Pre-registration ($20) is required and open to all ages.

The Painted Turtle is a member of the Serious Fun Children’s Network, an international family of camps founded by Paul Newman. It is the only camp of its kind in California, serving children with a variety of serious illnesses. All campers and families attend free of charge.

Through 8 week-long summer sessions, 12 Family Weekend programs, and 4 Day Camps. The Painted Turtle has provides life-changing experiences for 36,000 children and their families since 2004.

California’s top pediatric medical professionals volunteer their time and expertise to create a medically-safe environment. The Painted Turtle’s adaptive programming makes it possible for children with serious medical conditions to enjoy traditional summer camp activities such as fishing, boating, horseback riding, archery, high ropes, arts and crafts, woodshop, and much more. Through these programs campers gain self-confidence and independence and form a community of friends with other children who face similar medical challenges.

A variety of medical conditions served at The Painted Turtle include: cerebral palsy, spina bifida, kidney disease and transplant, liver disease and transplant, primary immunodeficiency diseases, rheumatic diseases, skeletal dysplasia (dwarfism), hemophilia, inflammatory bowel diseases, neuromuscular disorders, genetic and metabolic conditions

“We hope you will join us for this exciting event as we “gear” up to send kids to camp!”
