Escondido Applies to be Amgen Tour of California Host City

The Amgen Tour of California, which will take place from May 12-19, is already planning the 2013 edition and is accepting bids for possible Host Cities. According to NCTimes.com, Southern California, may see the return of San Diego County’s Escondido as the starting line city indicating that the event may run from South to North.

In 2009, Escondido was a finishing Host City and greeted the riders at the finish line with large enthusiastic crowds of 40,000 spectators after the Stage started in Rancho Bernardo then climbed up Palomar Mountain.

With approval from Escondido’s City Council to spend $475,000 to become one of eight host cities, Escondido has recently submitted an application to be considered after being approached by AEG. The City Council hopes to raise the funds through sponsorship donations.

Other cities that have applied to be Host Cities include; Solvang, Modesto, Sonora, Turlock and Santa Rosa which is vying to be the finishing city.

We will have to wait until the Host Cities are announced for sure, but would like to see the epic Queen Stage of Mt. Baldy return and always enjoyed the finishing circuits of Pasadena’s Rose Bowl and Rock Store Climb. Whichever Host Cities are selected, it will be a great week of racing for the riders and spectators to watch.
