On Friday, former Professional road cyclist Phil Gaimon was racing at the Velodrome in Trexlertown, PA when he suffered a bad crash that resulted in a broken his scapula, collarbone, five ribs, and a partially collapsed lung.
Gaimon recently announced his quest to make the Olympic Team for the 2020 Olympics in the Team Pursuit and was documenting the process as part of his “Worst Retirement Ever” YouTube Series. Phil writes, “I am on a mission to make it to the 2020 Olympics and help solve childhood hunger on the way. I’m going on a van tour this summer, training with cyclists all over the US, spreading the word about No Kid Hungry, and documenting it all on a YouTube show with the goal of raising $100,000.”
From his hospital bed, Gaimon said, “So the track race didn’t go very well. Broken scapula, collarbone, 5 ribs, and partially collapsed lung. What if I told you that I don’t have health insurance? Would you donate to help me out? How much?
Okay well I do have health insurance and I’m fundamentally alright, so I ask you to take that money and give it to @ChefsCycle @nokidhungry who need it more than I do. I’m in a lot of pain and this is all I can think to cheer me up.”
