2025 UCI Road World Championships
Men’s Elite Road Race Recap
The Men’s Elite Road Race at the 2025 World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, delivered an unforgettable test of strength, skill, and strategy. Covering 267.5 kilometers with nearly 5,500 meters of climbing, the course pushed the world’s best riders to their limits. Riders started and finished at the Kigali Convention Centre, first completing nine laps of a 15.1 km local circuit featuring the steep 0.8 km Côte de Kigali Golf and the 1.3 km cobbled Côte de Kimihurura, which challenged legs and positioning on every lap. The peloton then tackled a 42.5 km extension loop that included the long 5.9 km Mont Kigali climb, averaging nearly 7%, and the infamous Mur de Kigali, a 400-meter cobbled wall that ramps to 11%. After returning to Kigali, riders faced six more laps of the local circuit, ensuring repeated steep efforts before the finish.
In the end, Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia) executed a long-range attack and soloed to victory, earning the rainbow jersey with a powerful display of climbing and tactical savvy. Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) chased hard and took silver, while Ben Healy (Ireland) completed the podium in third. The combination of relentless climbs, cobbled ascents, and Kigali’s high altitude made this one of the most selective World Championship courses in recent memory.
