Health Net Presented by Maxxis Wins Cherry Pie Crit
2/14/06 - Karl Menzies of the Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis won the final city limit line sprint and more importantly, the Cherry Pie Criterium in Napa, CA on Sunday. And while he may not have hit the 40 mph speed limit on the slightly uphill finish, it was a satisfying win for the Aussie from Tasmania, who is living in Folsom, CA during the 2006 season.
The Health Net Maxxis mini train had to contend with a full contingent of riders from Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada. “I think they had 10 guys there, and they were setting up a lead-out for their sprinter. But with about 500 or 600 meters to go, we got to a wide, flat stretch and Mike got outside and drilled it, and took us around their train.”

Remembering Our Friend Roger Millikan
2/12/06 - There was a great turn out of riders and spectators at the Roger Millikan Memorial St. Valentine's Day Crit. This year the race was held on a new course that was fast with a winding downhill chicane on the backside. Most importantly, this race was a celebration of our friend Roger Millikan who lost his fight with cancer on December 13, 2004. We first met Roger when he ran the El Dorado Park training ride back in the 80's and early 90's with his wife Lynn. Roger could always make you laugh and we miss him.
Ride with Bob Roll benefiting the Frostig Center in Pasadena
2/9/06 - 63 “Bobke” fanatics rode around the streets of Pasadena on Sunday, January 29th in the Cyclists for Frostig's “Ride with Bob Roll” benefiting the Frostig Center - a school for children with learning disabilities (www.frostig.org). After the ride, it was time to hear and see some of Bob's favorite stories. He didn't disappoint, displaying them in classic fashion. Bob is a natural for a spot on Comedy Central filling the room with laughter right from the start as he recounted stories about his pro racing days with 7-11 and Motorola and what it was like to be a professional racing in Europe… including hypothermia, bottle hauling, riding day after day, sleeping in school gym's… even sharing the names of his favorite Euro brews! more >
