Pure Sweet Hell at Santa Barbara Film Festival
1/31/06 - Pleasure and pain, glory and defeat, mud and…more mud, PURESWEETHELL tells the story of cyclocross, a sport that has emerged as bike racing’s punk rock cousin. Told from an insider’s perspective, the filmmakers traveled to ‘cross competitions throughout north America, dug up vintage photos and film footage, and followed ‘cross luminaries Justin Robinson, Gina Hall, Barry Wicks and Rick Hunter.

Cannondale is Set to Launch the New Six 13 Slice Time Trial Bike
1/30/06 - You can catch the new Six 13 Slice underneath the Health Net PB Maxxis team at the Amgen Tour of California. Some of the Health Net guys were dialing in their positions on their Six 13 Slice time trial bikes at the Allied Aerospace Wind Tunnel in San Diego. The new Six 13 Slice has a carbon bladed down tube and a carbon top tube and will be lighter and stiffer than their previous time trial bike. Check back soon for more details regarding more specs on the new Six 13 Slice frame and fork.

Health Net Presented by Maxxis Breaks Camp, Heads for Amgen Tour of California.
1/27/06 - The Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis leaves its 2006 training camp in Buellton firm in the knowledge that the squad is not only stronger from top to bottom than the dominating 2005 team, but that it will be ready and motivated for the inaugural Amgen Tour of California. “We've put together an eight-man team for California that we feel can contend for the win in just about every stage, as well as a place on the final podium,” said team directeur sportif Jeff Corbett. more >

Winter Classic Bike Swap and Ride with Bob Roll this Weekend
1/26/06 - If you are looking to sell off some old cycling gear or find great deals, then check out the Winter Classic Bike Swap at the ADT Event Center on January 28th. You will also be simultaneoulsly entertained by some great track racing. If you are looking for more entertainment and would like to help raise money for kids with disabilities, then you can ride with Bob Roll in the “2006 Ride with Bob” benefiting the Frostig Center on Jan 29th in Pasadena. Bob has promised to keep his clothes on.

Amgen Tour of California 16-Team Roster Announced
1/25/06 - The Amgen Tour of California confirmed 16 domestic and international cycling teams to race in the inaugural event this February. Team CSC, the world's No. 1-ranked cycling team, Tour de France Champion Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team and Health Net presented by Maxxis, winner of USA Cycling's 2005 National Race Calendar (NRC), will lead 16 of the world's top teams from San Francisco to Redondo Beach, in the Tour de France-style event February 19 to 26. The field of 128 athletes is among the most internationally diverse and accomplished group of cyclists ever assembled for a professional stage race on American soil.

1/22/06 - Sarah Hammer and Becky Quinn joined forces to put forth a solid team effort and close out the L.A. World Cup with a 1-2 finish in the women’s scratch race Sunday. Their performance gave the U.S. five medals on the weekend as the event came to a close. more >

Sarah Hammer Wins Pursuit, Becky Quinn gets Silver and Michael Blatchford take Bronze at the UCI World Cup in LA
1/22/06 - It was standing room only at the ADT Event Center Velodrome this weekend, at the Los Angeles World Cup. The local girls had a stellar weekend, taking home some medals against a tough international field. Sarah Hammer took gold in the Women's Individual Pursuit, after posting a track record of 3:37.799 in her qualifying ride. Becky Quinn won silver in the Points Race, after winning two second place sprints and winning the final double points sprint. Nineteen year old Michael Blatchford (Cypress, CA) took bronze in the Men's Sprint after an aggressive race, which led to the disqualification of Britain's Jamie Staff, also a pro BMX'er. AEG Announces Amgen Tour of California Route
1/18/06 - From San Francisco to Redondo Beach, the exclusive details of the 600-mile Amgen Tour of California course were announced today by race presenter AEG. Beginning on February 19, the Tour de France-style race will feature 16 professional cycling teams traversing the beautiful state of California from north to south over eight days. more >

Tour de Murrieta Ready To Roll
1/17/06 - The 2006 Tour de Murrieta will be held March 11th -12th in Historic Down Town Murrieta and will feature some of the most competitive race teams in California. This USCF sanctioned, 2-day stage race will consist of a lightning fast, Grand Prix, 1.5 mile course on Saturday, March 11th and a circuit race, 3 mile course on Sunday, March 12th. Each competing team will battle for the coveted Leader's/Champion's Jersey awarded to the fastest overall rider in each category. more >

Last Chance - Fundraiser for Scaryfast Junior, Chance Noble
1/17/06 - So Cal's own, Chance Noble (Scaryfast Racing) was selected as a member of the US National Cyclo-Cross World Championship Junior Team. To help with the costs of his trips to Europe, SoCalCross has come together to help. At the Santa Cross race, a fund was started.

San Diego Bike Club Rolls Out New Year with 60th Anniversary
1/13/06 - San Diego Bike Club (SDBC) held their annual banquet at sponsor Karl Strauss' restaurant on Sunday January 8th, 2006. Over 200 participants ranging from State Champions to recreational riders, sponsors (see left) family and friends celebrated age 60 with “A club that is 400 members large, stronger and healthier than ever before” said 1946 founder Bob Bergen. According to Bergen, a few pre-war cyclists returned to San Diego from war-time military service and joined with some teens that hung about Bob Zumwalt's North Park Bike Shop to form SDBC. more >

Herbalife to Sponsor the Amgen Tour of California
1/10/06 - Herbalife has agreed to sponsor the inaugural Amgen Tour of California, which runs from San Francisco to Redondo Beach from February 19-26. Herbalife will serve as the exclusive presenting sponsor of the race's final stage in Redondo Beach and of Autograph Alley, where the riders will sign in at the start of each stage.

Changes to the '06 NORBA Schedule - Bonelli Changed to Southridge
1/05/06 - USA Cycling announced today two significant changes to the previously announced 2006 National Mountain Bike Series. Organizers of the series have added a seventh event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. July 15-16. Additionally, both the date and the venue of the opening round in Southern California have changed. Originally scheduled at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, Calif. on April 22-23, the season will now begin May 5-7 at Southridge Park in Fontana, Calif. 50 miles east of Los Angeles. 2006 California Mountain Bike Schedule >

Former San Diego Cyclist, Daniel Plummer, Killed in Storm Accident
1/03/06 - Daniel Plummer, 39, a champion cyclist who rode for Team Spine and research scientist formerly of San Diego, died instantly Sunday morning while riding. His riding friend, Eric Saltzman heard a loud snap as they rode their bikes in the Los Altos Hills. When he turned around he saw a eucalyptus tree had hit an electrical wire and Plummer was underneath the tree. more >

I mentioned how I had ridden sixty miles, most of it in the rain and had basically froze my rear end off on New Year’s Eve in the last phone conversation I had with Chance. He responded by telling me he would gladly have done that ride....in shorts and short sleeves rather than face another day of training in the god awful Northern European weather. If it hasn't been raining it has either been snowing or just plain freezing cold....pure sweet hell? more >
