Southern California-based cycling club, Team Redlands, will host the fourth annual Women’s Road Cycling Clinic on April 21-22, 2012. From the beginner and recreational cyclist, to the intermediate and race-focused athlete, the clinic is designed to encourage women to enjoy the benefits of cycling.
The Women’s Road Cycling Clinic officially begins Saturday, April 21, although riders are encouraged to take advantage of early check-in and the hands-on Flat Tire Fix Workshop on Friday, April 20, at 6:00 pm located at Cyclery USA in Redlands. Saturday morning kicks off with breakfast followed by instruction where participants will learn and practice riding skills, such as pedaling proficiency, cornering, paceline riding, pack riding, race strategies, and eating/drinking while on the bike.
After breaking for lunch certified cycling instructors will give in depth coaching on the following topics: how to be self sufficient and well prepared on rides, race tactics and strategies, nutrition, hydration and recovery, how to care for your bike, stretching and strengthen for cycling fitness, and improving your time trial/triathlon efforts.
Team Redlands is proud to announce that Dotsie Bausch will be the special guest speaker at this year’s clinic. Bausch is a six-time U.S. National Champion and a two-time Pan Am Championships gold medal winner. Currently in her 12th year as a bike racer, Bausch has spent nine of those years as a member of the U.S. National Team and competed in road races around the world for professional teams including Jazz Apple, Colavita-Sutter Home and T-Mobile. Bausch is also a current member of the USA National Track Cycling Team training for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
In the Saturday afternoon session participants will experience a maintenance workshop where they will learn how to fix flats, make basic adjustments, and clean and lubricate crucial bicycle components.
On the second day of the clinic, riders choose between taking part in a group ride, or participating in a non-sanctioned criterium event – both of which will take their riding skills to a new level. Sunday group ride options include a 15 or 35 mile ride. The criterium event will provide participants with an on-course mentor, plus instruction and support before and after the event. USAC Category 4 racers receive three upgrade points for attending the clinic.
The clinic boasts numerous give-away items donated by sponsors, in addition to the opportunity to win more cycling and health-related raffle items. The Women’s Road Cycling Clinic is organized to be fun, informative, and a great environment to meet other female cyclists.
Space is limited to the first 100 participants, and the fee is $80. For more information, contact [email protected].
