The Tour de Murrieta is taking place this weekend from March 11-13 in Murrieta and includes a time trial, criterium and circuit race in an omnium format. The omnium formats allows riders to compete in all three events or each event individually.
Todays’s criterium saw Justin Williams (Cylance/ Cannondale) take the win after a fast race that ended with a few crashes in the last six laps. The last crash happened after the free lap rule and took out nearly twenty riders, including Race Leader Taylor Sheldon (Jelly Belly) and several of his Jelly Belly teammates. Â This unfortunate crash will shake up the GC as points could not be earned as they watched from the sidelines. Bobby Lea finished in 2nd followed by Ulises Castillo (KHS-Maxxis-JL Velo) in 3rd.
The Women’s 1-3 race was won by Eri Yonamine (CRCA /Veselka), followed by Gretchen Stumhor ( Colavita / Bianchi pb Vittoria) in 2nd and Holly Breck (Twenty16 / Ridebiker) in 3rd to round out the podium.
