Tech & New Products: STRAVA introduces Beacon Safety Feature

STRAVA has introduced Beacon, a new way for athletes to enjoy for safer activities and have peace of mind for friends and family. Beacon lets Premium athletes share their real-time location during an activity with up to three safety contacts.

The concept for Beacon came from the Strava community. “We started by surveying our athletes to find out what types of features they would be most interested in and safety ranked highest,” said Rayleen Hsu, our Director of Product Marketing. Beacon is a feature for all athletes, not just those who want to improve their performance.

Beacon gives the ability to view an athlete’s location without having to login to Strava or install the app. STRAVA designed Beacon so the athlete can send a secure and randomized URL that works on any web browser, desktop or mobile. That way your Beacon safety contact doesn’t need to be on STRAVA to check in on your adventure.

STRAVA allows you to upload your data using your GPS unit (Garmin, iPhone or Android) and will automatically log and organize your data, giving you a complete overview of your training, while making fitness a social experience, providing motivation and camaraderie even if you’re exercising alone. It’s a great way to learn about new rides and connect with other cyclists! Strava is free to use or you can upgrade to a paid Premium account for more features.

We have created a SoCalCycling.com  STRAVA Club on where riders can track, compete and share your rides with other riders in the Cycling Community.
