Temecula based Spandex Stampede is proud to present the second annual Temecula Spandex Stampede Cycling GranFundo, Saturday, December 3rd, & the creation of the Spandex Stampede Mavic ALLROAD Gravel Grinder Saturday, November 12th. Both events will be hosted at Lake Skinner in Temecula, CA.
Born in the spirit of good times, the Spandex Stampede will provide an unforgettable experience to attendees as they traverse the rolling hills of Temecula alongside an all-star list of professional cyclists and motocross athletes. Exciting for this year is the inclusion of Mavic who will be headlining the gravel grinder to showcase there ALLROAD wheel which is ideal for the new surge in gravel grinder events with are popping up.
“The Spandex Stampede is a FUNdo, not a fondo,” says Jon Hornbeck, creator of the Spandex Stampede, and current professional cyclist for the Holowesko – Citadel p/b Hincapie Sportswear. “Our goal for this event is to create a fun, exciting atmosphere where cyclists of all levels and disciplines can get together and ride through Temecula’s very own wine country. The Stampede is about good times with good people, both on and off the bike, and we’re excited to offer that up to anyone who wants to join.”
Friendly for all cyclists, there will be two routes available for riders; 100-kilometer and 50-kilometer distances, through Temecula’s rolling hills. Designed to be enjoyable. The Temecula Spandex Stampede Road Fundo puts fun at the forefront over a long grueling day in the saddle. The Mavic ALLROAD Gravel Grinder will have one route through out wine country with most roads taking place on gorgeous dirt roads.
Conceived by Jon Hornbeck, the FUNdo will not only draw pure cyclists, but also those involved in the motocross community. “I spent many years racing motocross, but ultimately gave it up to later pursue cycling,” states Hornbeck. “It was important to me to create an event revolving around off season fun, for both cyclists and moto athletes. The Stampede is ideal for that. Last year we had a great turnout from the moto community, and this year we look to continue that tradition.
The Spandex Stampede is also proud to donate a portion of all proceeds to the Swamis Junior Cycling club & TRU Cycling club. “Personally, I’m really excited about these event’s and the fact that I can give back to two grassroots style cycling clubs based in southern California. Sponsorship dollars are obviously hard to come by for cycling teams, so I’m happy that I can do my part to give back.” says creator Jon Hornbeck.
Hosted at beautiful Lake Skinner Park, riders will be treated to lunch, and enjoy beer & wine, live music, raffles and award ceremonies in addition to a complimentary yoga session at the event expo. “We couldn’t be happier about having Lake Skinner as our backdrop,” adds Hornbeck. ”Cyclists want to have a scenic, comfortable place to hang out after the ride to enjoy their food & drinks, not stand around on a street or in a parking lot.”
Also new for this year will be the introduction of the Spandex Stampede 5k run. The November 5k will encourage runners to be bring cans of food for the food drive, and the December run will encourage runners to bring some sort of toy to benefit the toy drive. “I’ve always wanted to grow our days of events to move more into a fitness day which is why I’m excited about the introduction of the 5k for a good cause” states Hornbeck. The Spandex Stampede now offers a ride, run, and a yoga class which showcases that it is just more then a ride.
For the gravel grinder there will be an 8:00am roll out. For the road fundo there will be a 8:00 am rollout for the 100 km group, followed by the 50 km group at 8:30am.
