Snow Summit Crafts & Cranks and SPNDX Stampede new to Cycling Festival
The Big Bear Cycling Association (BBCA) has announced that it has scheduled its 9th Annual Tour de Big Bear cycling event for Saturday, August 4, 2018.
“Last year’s Tour de Big Bear was a sell out for the eighth consecutive year, with a record 2100 riders,” says Craig Smith, president of BBCA. “In 2017, we announced new route changes to Tour de Big Bear and the HC Gran Fondo and in 2018, we are very excited to add Snow Summit Mountain Resorts Crafts & Cranks, a mountain bike racing and craft beer festival, and the SPNDX Stampede Gravel Ride to the Big Bear Cycling Festival.”
Tour de Big Bear/HC Gran Fondo
Held in the high country of Southern California’s San Bernardino Mountains, road cyclists of all levels escape the summer heat and cruise alpine roadways and trails, over high mountain passes like Onyx Summit (elevation of 8,443 feet), and around Big Bear and Baldwin Lakes. With scenic and challenging high altitude rides, professional style racing venue and a weeklong Cycling Festival, it’s no wonder Big Bear Lake is known as the “Cycling Capital of Southern California.”
Tour de Big Bear and Tour de Big Bear HC Gran Fondo are proud to announce its association with Haute Route (www.hauteroute.org), cycling’s premier amateur cycling organization, plus its membership to the 2018 Gran Fondo National Series ( www.granfondonationalseries.com ).
Gran Fondo rider’s in twelve cities across the country, including Big Bear Lake, California, compete for points leading to a National Championship later this summer.
Tour de Big Bear will again host riders to Big Bear Lake and provide rides appealing to all level of rider and athlete.

Tour de Big Bear – 25 miles – over 1300 feet of climbing
Big Bear Valley Tour – 50 miles –more than 3000 feet of climbing
The Grand Tour – 70 miles – over 4,800 feet of climbing
THE CLIMB – 107 miles –8,000 feet of challenging climbing
HC Gran Fondo – 125 miles – nearly 12,000 feet of climbing
Tour de Big Bear Weekend Events: The BBCA hosts a two-day cycling expo with 40+ cycling vendors, a complimentary bike valet for registered riders, entry into the New Belgium Beer Garden, our famous raffle and live entertainment during Saturday’s festivities. Tour de Big Bear is a timed event and includes the Tour de Big Bear HC Gran Fondo and popular King and Queen of the Mountain Race Segment. Prizes are awarded to winners of the competitive events. All registered riders receive a goodie bag, custom-designed finishers’ medal, and a high-performance, technical shirt and much more. Each Tour de Big Bear distance is staffed with Course Marshalls, numerous legendary nutrition/hydration aid stations, first aid attendants, and rider safety and repair vehicles. Rounding out the weekend are complimentary organized recovery ride and competitive time trial race on Sunday, August 5.

Snow Summit Crafts & Cranks Mountain Bike & Beer Festival (Jul 28 – 29)

Big Bear SPNDX Stampede (August 5)
The SPNDX Stampede is thrilled to announce the inclusion into the week of cycling festivities for the Big Bear festival! Taking place Sunday following the Tour de Big Bear road event we will start and finish in the heart of the Big Bear Village.
With a route taking you on dirt roads, fire road climbs, single track through the trees and a proper amount of climbing it truly will be a Stampede like no other. As true to any Stampede event the route will be fun, challenging, gorgeous and not so long to where you’re out there all day. You need time to enjoy our post-ride set up with drinks, goodies and laughs with your fellow Stampeder’s!
Similar to our other Gravel events this is a 200 rider limit entry only and looks to fill prior to the event date.

New to the Big Bear Cycling Festival is the SPNDX Stampede, Big Bear Lake’s first gravel ride event. If your tank still has some juice in it after Tour de Big Bear . . . swap out the tires and hit the dirt. Taking place on Sunday following the Tour de Big Bear road event riders start in the Village and are challenged with a 44-mile route including fire road climbs and single track through the trees, that will make it a Stampede like no other in the series.

Big Bear Cycling Festival
The only weeklong cycling festival in the United States, the Big Bear Cycling Festival features events and activities that draw thousands of visitors to Big Bear Lake for a few days up to a full week. Grand Marshalls for this year’s Big Bear Cycling Festival will be newly announced Specialized Women Ambassador and former Team Cylance racer Alison Tetrick and four-time road race champion and Tour of California Race Ambassador Freddie Rodriguez. Events and activities include group rides (road and mountain), a Cyclefest youth event, new Bike Demo Event, a Poker Ride, Recovery Ride and Time Trials culminating in the Tour de Big Bear road cycling event on Saturday, August 4.
