The 16th edition of the San Dimas Stage Race is about to unfold. Glendora Mountain Road, the quiet lanes of Bonelli Park, and the streets of downtown San Dimas will soon be filled with color and courage as hundreds of the nation’s best riders take to the roads, singly in the Time Trial and in large groups in the Road Race and the Criterium, in the hopes of achieving a spot on the podium.
This year’s race will be a blend of tradition and innovation. Stage 1’s iconic Time Trial and Stage 3’s fast Criterium are unchanged from last year, but Stage 2’s Road Race has been updated to add a new dynamic to the race for the riders and spectators. Cannon, with its challenging cobblestones, has been eliminated and in its place is a short, steep power climb adjacent to Bonelli Dam. At the top of that climb will be the KOM along with a special viewing area for spectators called Heckler’s Hill.
Race categories have been updated to reflect recent changes made by USA Cycling to the Master’s categories and to bring back the Women’s Cat 3-4 category. The San Dimas Stage Race has always tried to be as inclusive as possible – there is a category for just about anyone that wants to race – a rarity these days, so come out and support “your” race.
Registration is open through Sunday March 22nd, so get online at bikereg.com and get signed up for three days of not-to-be-missed racing.
