The 37th Annual Solvang Century, Metric & Half Century will start the Spring cycling season and will be held on Saturday March 9th, 2019. The event is moving to a new Start/Finish location, namely the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott Hotel in Buellton. The event continues the tradition of being an “un-Grand Fondo” ride in that everyone rides at their own pace as fast or slow as they wish to enjoy the rural scenery and camaraderie of their fellow cyclists.
The entry fee has been reduced to $95 if pre-registering for the ride. This covers the entry fee , a SWAG bag, patch, Chamois Butt’r sample, refrigerator magnet, helmet RFID tag and wrist band, roving SAG and mechanical support Clif Bar sample and all food, water and SPIZ energy drink at all the rest stops.
VeloFix will be providing 4 roving mechanic vehicles, one for each course to keep your bike in tip-top shape and fix your bike on-the-road.
Registration will be held in the main Ballroom at the Marriott Hotel, 555 McMurray Road, Buellton, Calif. 93427 on Friday evening March 8th from 6 to 10 pm and Saturday morning March 9th from 6 am to 9:30 am. All entries this year will be online including Day-Of-Event Registration will open on Thursday morning, March 7th at 9 am for those who prefer to wait and see if the weather is conducive for riding in!
This year we are doing away with Bib numbers and will use only the Helmet RFID Tags that we used last year to identify all riders. There will be RFID Tag readers placed around the course to track everyone’s progress and which will also be used for a Timed Segment on Santa Rosa Road ofapproximately 10 miles as well as over Drum Canyon and over “The Wall”on Foxen Canyon. You will be able to see your times over these segmentsas well as everyone else on a Photocrazy website. Photocrazy will also be stationed next to an RFID tracker and will be offering your picture(s)for purchase on their web site within a day after the event.
Bar codes on the RFID Helmet Tags will also be screened at all the SAG Stops for access to food, water and portapotties as well as to screen out bandit riders that have become a growing problem for events such as ours. We cut our number of bandit riders down to 66 last year from 500+ the year before as a result of these changes.
There are four routes to chose from this year (100, 70, 56 and 51 miles) with 6 SAG stops around the 4 courses. The elevation gains are 5000,
3800, 3500 and 2100 feet of elevation gain respectively. All rides will Start and Finish in the rear parking lot of the Marriott Hotel whereour site will be set up with many cycling related vendors,BBQ lunch area, Beer Sales, live DJ and massage therapists available after the ride.
We have a limited number of Platinum Packages that include 2 nights lodging at the Marriott Hotel, entry fee, a jersey, BBQ lunch and Finisher’s Certificate. They are available for purchase on our website for $800 (one rider, one guest) or $975 for two riders and up to two guests. All rooms have two queen sized beds.
