After 10 Years Over the Hump Mountain Bike Race Series Draws 700+ Mountain Bike Racers on a Tuesday

Over the Hump Mountain Bike Series

Next Tuesday on August 13, Over the Hump Mountain Bike Race Series, Presented by Mazda, celebrates its 10 year anniversary.  What started as a midweek one-off mid-week mountain bike race has become the weekly gathering spot for SoCal Mountain Bike Racers, families and invested stakeholders in the action sport world. Every Tuesday, over 1000 people gather to celebrate their lifestyle.

Over the Hump continues to grow. This year the race participation has grown by 10% over 2018. Over 130 kids 6-11 years old frequent the race venue with their families to experience the fun.  Linked Cycling, a local cycling club brings 25 volunteers a week to help manage the kid’s race because they believe in the experience and want to give to families.  Their shared love of service and kids falling in love with cycling drives their investment.

“Over the Hump has done more to bring us all together, than any other event or group that I’ve ever seen in all my years in the cycling industry. I’d say it’s the single-most contributing factor in the growth of Southern California mountain biking we have seen in the last 10 years. Everybody’s together and having a blast; competing retail businesses and friends all together to have a great time,” shares Jeff Renteria, Co-owner of Rock N Road Cyclery in Mission Viejo, CA.

Tuesday’s 10 Year Anniversary party at Lakeview Park will be celebrated by season participants being awarded a Commemorative 10 Year Pint Glass, a Flannel and Cut-offs costume party, and a Classic Bike Race Class including any mountain bike earlier than 1999.

Co-Founder John Russell reminisces what’s happened since August 22, 2009. “We started with 325 Racers in 2009. Now, this is where everybody chooses to be during the summer. The bike shops, sponsors, friends, families. Matt’s (Wenger Co-founder) and my kids talk about it all year and look forward to being here too. It’s not work. It’s passion.”

12 retail bicycle shops and more than 50 Manufacturers and sponsors will be at the party celebrating the last 10 years including Mazda, Muscle Monster, Simple Green, Fox Racing, Cannondale, Specialized, Giant, Felt Bicycles, Mountain Bike Action, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, and Docent Brewing among them.
